MEMBERSHIP 

MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Regular membership is open to all teachers of Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian languages, literatures, and cultures, and to all others interested in such languages, literatures, and cultures. If you have not been a member of the AATSP before and wish to join, you qualify for a first-year membership.

First Year Membership $45

Renewal $65

Student membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students only. Students must verify enrollment during the academic year in a course of study leading to a degree and cannot hold any full-time teaching appointments. (Student membership not to exceed a total of three (3) years). Proof of student status is required.

Joint Membership is available to two individuals residing at the same residential address. A Joint Membership cannot be processed online. Please contact the AATSP for instructions to insure proper processing.

Regular members who have paid dues for forty (40) years automatically become life members exempt from payment of dues. Life members are entitled to all privileges of membership.

For Regular members with less than 40 years of membership, Life membership can be purchased for a one-time fee of $1950.00 or three annual installments of $650.00.

With each decade of regular membership in good standing, the fee for life membership is reduced by one-fourth.

Emeritus membership is available to any retired member who has paid dues to the AATSP for at least thirty (30) years.

Emeritus members are entitled to all privileges of membership, except the right to receive Hispania free.

Automatic Renewal

Invited and accepted upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors.

WHY JOIN THE AATSP?

An AATSP membership provides various resources such as access to the official AATSP Career Center, publications, programs, and professional development. The AATSP connects teachers with teachers.

CAREER CENTER

The Career Center offers a free job search engine with new and improved features such as resume upload and feedback as well as tips for finding the perfect job in Spanish and Portuguese.



PROGRAMS

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society with benefits for high school students. The Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad (SHA) is an activities-based society for students in grades K-9. The National Spanish Examinations (NSE) is a motivational language skills contest for high school students. The National Spanish Assessment (NSA) offers a new, more flexible assessment format. The National Portuguese Exam (NPE) is a motivational, extra-curricular activity and contest for students.



TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES

New and improved Classroom resources categorized by theme and professional development in a downloadable, ready-to-use format.

AWARDS, SCHOLARSHIPS, TRAVEL STIPENDS

The AATSP partners with Study Abroad program providers to award scholarships to eligible members and their students for authentic language immersion and research and grants for travel stipends to selected applicants to aid in the cost of travel expenses to the AATSP Annual Conference. Annual awards recognize members’ achievements.

PUBLICATIONS

A membership with the AATSP grants free access (online) to four publications. Hispania, the Association’s oldest publication, offers articles on applied linguistics, cultural studies, culture, film, language, linguistics, literary criticism, literature, and language pedagogy. The Portuguese Newsletter is a semi-annual bulletin for Portuguese educators and students primarily focused on the study and teaching of Portuguese. The Spanish & Portuguese Review (SPR) is a journal written and edited by graduate students for graduate students. Albricias is the official journal of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica which showcases student artwork and writing.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Members receive a discount on AATSP Annual Conference registration which includes over 300 sessions, workshops, exhibits, and meetings aimed to improve cultural and literary knowledge to further develop your professional skills and promote the latest language teaching techniques. The AATSP also provides free educational webinars sponsored in collaboration with its business partners.

AATSP personal memberships are nontransferable. New members must complete a new membership application and submit payment for their membership dues.


 

The AATSP does not offer refunds once the payment is received and processed.
