Eligibility: Chapters that have received this award previously are not eligible to receive the award again for a period of three years and should not apply for consideration until the three-year period has passed. 

Congratulations to the winner of the 2024 Chapter of the Year Award, The Chicago Area chapter from Chicago, IL!

Nominations materials must include the following:

 

• Evidence that the chapter is in compliance with all AATSP Chapter Guidelines
• Evidence that chapter provides professional development opportunities in the form of workshops and/or speakers. Evidence should include a copy of the publicity flyer or program.
• Evidence of immersion and/or cultural experiences for members (such as a gathering conducted in the target language, outing to a theater production in the target language, excursion to a museum with exhibits on target culture). Evidence should include a copy of the publicity flyer or program. 
• Evidence that chapter members give sessions or workshops at the AATSP national of regional conferences and/or at other foreign language conferences. Evidence ca include copies of conference programs. 
• Evidence that the chapter promotes participation in AATSP programs and activities that span all education level including the annual AATSP Conference; National Spanish Examinations and/or National Portuguese Examinations; Poster Contest; Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad; Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica; webinars. Evidence can include information such as a program from an awards ceremony that documents prizes and/or awards distributed at the chapter level for participation in the NSE, NPE, Poster Contest, SHH, SHA or publicity information available in brochures, flyers, newsletter, and/or the website. 
• Evidence that the chapter nominates chapter members for AATSP Awards, AATSP Scholarship/Travel Stipends; AATSP elections. Evidence can include copies of letters of nomination and/or recommendation of the various programs or elections. 
• Evidence of a chapter Newsletter; provide a link to copies for the previous year. 
• Evidence of a chapter website: provide a URL. 

6. All nomination materials must be submitted in electronic format and sent via e-mail.

Responsibilities of Chapter of the Year

• The Chapter of the Year Award will be presented during the AATSP Annual Conference.
• A representation from the winning Chapter (preferably the Chapter President) is expected to be in attendance to accept the award. 
• A representation from the winning Chapter (preferably the Chapter President) is expected to give a brief presentation at the Chapter Delegate Assembly highlighting chapter activities and programs.
