2019 Two-Year College Level Teacher of the Year
The AATSP Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award Two-Year College Level is Susanna Williams who teaches at Macomb Community College, Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan. Susanna Williams has been recognized for her dedication in the classroom with two National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence in Teaching Awards (2004, 2015). One of her colleagues notes that she is “constantly reading and attending conferences about the latest research on second language acquisitions, and she does not hesitate to share her findings.”
Her Dean recognizes her as an “exceptional mentor and teacher” who, as Chair of Foreign Languages, has initiated two successful Study Abroad programs, developed service learning programs, created new course curricula, and pioneered hybrid teaching. Beyond her classroom, Susanna had devoted her life to student success initiatives as a committed, compassionate advocate for first generation students, many of whom work and are single parents.
According to her coworkers, Susanna “always advocates for the students’ needs and reminds us that we are here not only to teach them but to help them achieve their long- term goals.”
