The AATSP Outstanding Service Award is given to an AATSP member who has made outstanding service contributions to the Association.

The 2016 recipient of the Outstanding Service Award is Frank Nuessel from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. 

Frank Nuessel has been an AATSP member for fifty years and in this time he has served the Association in numerous capacities. Frank served on the AATSP Executive Council/Board of Directors (2003-2005), chaired the Nominating Committee (2005-2006) and has chaired the Committee on Honorary Fellows since 2013.  He has also served on the Editorial Board of Hispania for several terms and is currently the Special Guest Editor of the centennial issue of the journal, which is a major project. Frank is also an extraordinary scholar and over the years he has contributed seven articles to Hispania along with ten invited book reviews and has made dozens of presentations at the AATSP annual conference. A colleague stated that he has always been impressed by Frank’s "diplomatic touch and his unwavering sense of collegiality, which helped to overcome differences of opinion and steer discussions toward a positive solution.”

Another colleague stated, "I have never encountered in my whole professional life anyone more generous, more courteous, and more supportive than Frank.”  In summary, Frank is the embodiment of what the AATSP Outstanding Service Award stands for.
