AATSP NAMES LISA GREENMAN NEXT NSE DIRECTOR
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) is proud to announce that Lisa J. Greenman has been selected as the next Director of the National Spanish Exams (NSE). Currently, Greenman is a middle school Spanish teacher in Norridge, IL.
She is a longtime advocate and sponsor of the NSE contest and assessments in middle and high schools.
Greenman has a rich and varied background. She has taught Spanish at the secondary, middle and elementary levels including dual language instruction in Illinois, Alabama, and Georgia. Greenman taught Sociology and Anthropology in several higher education
settings from university to community college. She holds an MA in Cultural Anthropology from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, where she is ABD. Her qualitative and quantitative research centered on immigration. Greenman studied for an academic
year at the graduate level at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), Puebla, Mexico. She has traveled to Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. Greenman also has non-profit management experience with The ARC of Tennessee where
she was a program director and an advocate for people with disabilities.
Greenman has long-time involvement with programs of the AATSP such as the Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. In 2020, Greenman was named AATSP Teacher of the Year (Elementary Level).
As the Director of the National Spanish Exams, she will lead all aspects of the National Spanish Exam (NSE), National Portuguese Exam (NPE), National Spanish Assessment (NSA) and the new contest for elementary students called the National Spanish Challenge
(NSC). “We welcome Lisa Greenman to the AATSP staff. She is a leader with a growth mindset that has the experience and drive to bring fresh perspectives and innovation to the NSE suite of exams,” said Sheri Spaine Long, AATSP Executive Director.
During her interview, Greenman spoke of the role of assessment in improving teaching and learning as well as the important motivational aspect of the AATSP’s student contests. Greenman is enthusiastic about working with Avant Assessment to develop
and expand the recently announced strategic alliance between the AATSP and Avant Assessment.
Greenman plans to relocate to northern Indiana to join the NSE staff and will begin to serve as NSE Director on June 1, 2021.
