COVID-19 Response from NSE

Tuesday, March 24, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

While the schedule of classes in most schools has been disrupted and changed to accommodate guidelines from the CDC and governmental authorities, we as educators are still entrusted with serving the needs of our students. During this time of uncertainty it is our responsibility to create an atmosphere that still allows our student a sense of normalcy and accomplishment.

The National Spanish and Portuguese Exams have always been a motivating contest in which students can showcase what they know and are able to do with their skills in language. The National Spanish Exam Staff and Board of Directors as well as AATSP leadership are committed to helping students achieve success on the 2020 National Spanish and Portuguese Examinations.

To this end, the NSE Board of Directors has approved modifications to both the test window and the way the 2020 National Spanish and Portuguese Examinations may be administered.

  • The test window will be extended through May 15 (possibly longer if the situation warrants it) to accommodate students whose schools' normal schedules have been disrupted.

The Test Development Committee has also created some Virtual Lesson Plans for teachers to use both to prepare for the National Spanish Exam and to support other learning objectives in their courses. We encourage teachers to use these resources as many of you teach online for an extended period of time.

For inquiries, you may email or call the National Spanish Exam Office at 219-465-2100.
