COVID-19 Statement from AATSP Executive Director Sheri Spaine Long, PhD

Sunday, March 15, 2020

March 15, 2020

The COVID-19 situation is especially troubling with significant consequences across all sectors of society. Aggressive and preventative measures are being taken to protect our individual and collective health. This an unprecedented situation which requires many of us to adjust our normal practices.

In an effort to protect the health and well-being of staff, members, and visitors working in our offices (AATSP National Office and the NSE Office), the AATSP and the NSE will operate principally on a virtual basis beginning Monday, March 16. Rest assured, we are not suspending or closing operations. We will continue to serve you and conduct our business on a remote basis through the usual means of communication (email / telephone) through April 13.

The AATSP Board of Directors, the NSE and the SHH leadership teams will also continue to operate virtually. All AATSP committees should continue to operate virtually.

Moving forward, all scheduled webinars this week, such as the Power of Advocacy (3-19) and Buenas prácticas en la enseñanza de español en línea (3-19), remain scheduled as planned. We are continuing to closely monitor the situation and are in the process of researching options for upcoming in-person events if the need for alternatives arises. Any changes to scheduled programs will be communicated directly to attendees.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we all try to navigate this rapidly changing situation in the United States and in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries. And most importantly, please stay safe and healthy.

Todos por um! ¡Todos a una!

Sheri Spaine Long, PhD
AATSP Executive Director
