Environmental Humanities in Spanish and Portuguese 2.0

Due to the intense interest shown in our 2020 MLA session, "Environmental Humanities and the 'Greening' of Spanish and Portuguese," we are pleased to continue to explore developments in environmental humanities in Spanish and Portuguese at MLA 2021 in Toronto in this guaranteed session. The session will feature 4 short papers, followed by open discussion.

250-word abstracts for 10-12-minute papers are invited on scholarly approaches to the environmental humanities in Spanish and Portuguese. Submissions are invited from, but not limited, to areas such as:

• ecocriticism in literature and film;

• feminist ecocriticism;

• environmental humanities and indigenous literatures;

• plant studies;

• animal studies, non-human beings, and multi-species relationships;

Please direct inquiries and send abstracts to: Gwen Barnes-Karol, Department of Romance Languages, St. Olaf College, DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS: March 15, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the AATSP's "guaranteed" session at MLA.  All abstracts will be acknowledged. Presenters selected for the session must be members of both AATSP and MLA by April 7, 2020.

2) Call for Submissions

MLA 2021 Language and Literature Program Innovation Room

MLA 2021 in Toronto will feature the second Language and Literature Program Innovation Room, a new convention format that débuted at MLA 2020 in Seattle. Jointly sponsored by ADFL and ADE, the Innovation Room showcases innovative curricular initiatives in an interactive fashion with presenters at individual tables. Presenters are invited to bring a poster or electronic presentations and any materials they wish to share (e.g., course syllabi).

For 2021, environmental humanities is one of the areas featured in the call for submissions, along with many other areas (see link below).

Presentations are welcome from individuals or teams of up to 3 presenters. All presenters must be (or become) members of MLA within 5 days of notification of their acceptance, and they will be listed in the MLA convention program.

Submissions of 250-word abstracts must be submitted by Sunday, March 29, 2020, 11:59 EDT through an electronic form available at:
