Nancy Morejón named 2018 AATSP Honorary Fellow

Nancy Morejón (Havana 1944) is an acclaimed Afro Cuban poet, whose works are admired throughout the Spanish-speaking world and are read and studied in literature classes in the United States, including Advanced Placement courses. Among her numerous awards are recognition by the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) in 2012 with the Work/Life award, the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic in 2013, the Rafael Alberti Award in 2007, and the Cuban National Literature Prize in 2001. Morejón was elected President of Cuba’s UNEAC, the
Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas Cubanos, in 2008, a position she held for many years, and has been a full member of the Cuban Academy of Language since 1999. Currently she is the Director of the Caribbean Studies Center of
Casa de las Américasand Director of the Cuban Academy of Language.
