A SPANISH-LANGUAGE CURRICLUM CENTERING BLACKNESS IN LATIN AMERICA & BLACK LANGUAGE LEARNERS A FREE, fully task-based, and open-access Spanish language curriculum has just been released to the public. The curriculum centers Blackness in Latin America and Black language learners and was designed based off a needs analysis study that was conducted with over 300 Spanish-language learners in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HIS) setting. This curriculum was designed by Melissa Baralt, Aris Clemons, Uju Anya, and Déborah Gómez and was funded by the National Endowment from the Humanities.
Teachers can access and download all lesson plans, tasks, videos, and audio clips at the link below. Each unit features videos of community leaders, teachers, and/or students who use Spanish in their lives and talk about why it is meaningful to them. Stay tuned for more curricula, materials for teachers, and forthcoming, materials in Haitian Creole!
