Written Corrective Feedback in the Spanish Heritage Language Classroom

This highly practical and relevant presentation will provide an overview of critical
considerations language instructors need to take into account when providing written
corrective feedback to heritage language learners. Given that heritage language learners
often hold negative linguistic attitudes and insecurities toward their writing skills, I will offer
specific feedback strategies that can help enhance students’ literacy skills while reinforcing
self-confidence and pride. In addition, participants will learn and share experiences about how
to create a meaningful and positive classroom environment in which appropriate and
productive feedback on writing can take place in a heritage language context.
