AATSP Session at the MLA Convention in 2024

Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: March 16, 2023

Session title: Afrodescendencia/Afrodescendência: Critical Impact in Cultural Studies,
Linguistics, and Pedagogy

Description: This session seeks to explore the critical impact of Afrodescendants in Global Portuguese and Global Spanish contexts from a variety of perspectives that include justice, democratic pedagogy, cultural production, and cultural analysis. Topics may include, but are not limited to:

1. Literary/oral traditions
2. Cultural productions
3. Linguistics studies relating to the African Diaspora
4. Applied Linguistics studies relating to experiences of the African Diaspora
5. Pedagogy related to teaching Afrodescendant students and/or representing and/or discussing Afrodescendencia/Afrodescendência in the classroom

The AATSP’s guaranteed session at the MLA Convention in January 2024 will explore these topics. We seek 250-word abstracts for 10- to 12-minute papers.

Note: This is the AATSP’s guaranteed session at the MLA Convention in January 2024. All abstracts will be acknowledged. Presenters selected for the session must confirm their participation prior to March 30. Presenters selected for the session must be members of both AATSP and MLA no later than by April 7, 2023.
