CALL FOR PAPERS
SPECIAL REPORTS SECTION: Is the Textbook Dead?

Is the textbook as we know it dead? This special Reports section of Second Language Research & Practice will treat the role of textbooks in postsecondary language education and language program direction. Reports may address traditional print-based textbooks from commercial publishers, digital textbooks published as open educational resources (OERs), or the continuum between the two. Reports may explore topics including, but not limited to: the relationship between publishers and language program directors; issues of equity, access, and cost; the (non-)representation of historically marginalized groups in textbooks; standard and non-standard language; the presence or absence of controversial or difficult themes; the legitimacy of traditional versus OER textbooks; textbook (in)effectiveness; advocacy and education around OER textbooks.

Reports (up to 5,000 words) should establish constructive links between theoretical concepts and research findings, on the one hand, and their application to curriculum, instruction, assessment, or teacher professional development, on the other hand.

This special Reports section will be published alongside the regular Research Articles and Reports rubrics of the Second Language Research & Practice
