She will discuss how the SDGs connect to the work of the schools, why it is relevant and important to be aware of them, and how using the SDGs can strengthen the work of the schools.

The Coalition of Community-Based Heritage Language Schools is inviting you to participate in a Webinar about how the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals can be included in the work of community-based heritage language schools. It will be held Wednesday, June 15, at 4:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and will be led by Renata Emilsson Peskova, Móðurmál, the Association on Bilingualism, Iceland Móðurmál – the Association on Bilingualism (modurmal.com).

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, THE 17 GOALS | Sustainable Development (un.org), which were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The (SDGs) are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing – to participate in a global partnership. 

In this Webinar, for representatives of community-based heritage language schools, Renata Peskova will briefly introduce the SDGs and describe how Móðurmál and its heritage language schools worked on a project connected with the SDGs in 2021. She will discuss how the SDGs connect to the work of the schools, why it is relevant and important to be aware of them, and how using the SDGs can strengthen the work of the schools. Renata and Webinar participants will discuss concrete ideas for teachers and boards to take the first steps to work with the SDGs.
