BAPC 2023 Teaching for Intercultural Citizenship April 1st 2023 Northeastern’s World Languages Center (WLC) invites proposals for the fourth Boston Area Pedagogy Conference
In line with a recent call for promoting competencies for democratic culture, the concept of intercultural citizenship has taken center stage. Intercultural citizenship refers to competencies such as valuing cultural plurality and fluidity, being open to cultural others, possessing linguistic, communicative, and plurilingual skills, and having knowledge and a critical understanding of language and communication. Language educators can contribute to this critical need by fostering their students’ intercultural competence and citizenship, enabling them to see beyond their personal experiences.
This year’s BAPC will focus on the exploration of intercultural citizenship and communication in language education. Seeking interdisciplinary perspectives on the development of theories, research, and practice, this conference will bring together members of the language education community who are interested in sharing and discussing learning resources and best practices within higher education institutions. The conference aims to foster mutual support as we equip language students with skills and competencies for living and working in increasingly interconnected environments and local contexts. Call for proposals deadline: Januaryy 27, 2023 Keynote Speaker: Manuela Wagner Professor of Language Education in the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages at the University of Connecticut For more information visit https://bapc2023.sites.northeastern.edu/
