Call for Submissions: Anthology of Memories of Hispanic Grandmothers as Remembered by their Grandchildren
While over the last years there has been a wide range of writing and research on the role grandmothers play in their grandchildren life, there is relatively little work on the significant role that Hispanic grandmothers have on their grandchildren. Likewise, there has been a lack of attention on how adult grandchildren conceptualize the grandmother's significance in their lives. This anthology is a tribute to the contributions of Hispanic grandmothers from the perspective of their own grandchildren. As editors, we are interested in considering manuscripts in Spanish by both published and un-published authors in the following topics:
Family Chronicler and Folk Storyteller Oral Histories The Role of Memory and Forgetting in Family Stories Childhood Memories Holidays and Celebrations Cultural Heritage and Identity The Diaspora and Cultural Link Immigration Assimilation and Discrimination Nostalgia and Loss Intergenerational Communication Language Youth Development Diverse Caregiving Roles Food Music and Songs Norms, Beliefs and Values Rituals Philosophy of Life Personal Experiences related to Historical/Political events and Social Movements Education Repertoire of Talents and Skills Religion and Spirituality Superstitions Health and Folk Medicine
Examples of the types of submissions that will be consider for possible inclusion in the anthology include, but are not limited to, the following: short stories, poems, songs, essays, interviews, recipes, folk stories, non-fiction writing and drawings in black and white along with a short narrative.
Submission Guidelines
Length: 10-12 pages maximum. Page numbers should be on each page in the top right corner with the author's last name and work title.
Format: Double spaced and 12 pt. font (preferably Times New Roman). Include a cover letter with the author's address, email and phone number.
File Type: MS Word document or PDF Format as an email attachment.
All submission will be reviewed by the editors, but only those authors accepted for inclusion in the anthology will be notified. We would prefer to receive contributions that have not been published before, but we will consider work that has been previously published. However, authors are responsible for any permission required for the reprinting of their work. In addition, all submitted work for consideration should be publication ready. Proposals or rough drafts will not be considered.
Please, submit the complete work to both of the editors: Ilia Casanova-Marengo (icas@stlawu.edu) and Marina Llorente (mllorente@stlawu.edu) by March 9, 2010. The editors will appreciate if you can let them know before hand of your interest in collaborating with this project. This way they will know approximately how many submissions they can expect receiving before the deadline. |
