Statement of Candidacy

I am T.J. Troche, I am a National Board-Certified Spanish teacher from Las Vegas, NV & I would like to be your next 9-12 High School Representative on the AATSP board. I have been teaching high school Spanish for 14 years & have been a member of the AATSP for nearly my entire career. High school teachers comprise more than ⅔ of the membership of this organization & it will be among my goals as a representative of such a large proportion of the membership to promote more visibility of the AATSP among high school teachers, to encourage more participation from high school teachers in the presentations offered at the annual conference, & to foster collaboration between K-12 and post-secondary teachers. I would like to sit on the board of the AATSP because I firmly believe that if one hopes to effect change & make an impact then they must be a part of the process to make it happen. I have served on the board of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica for 3 years, as well as the board of the Southwest Conference on Language Teaching, & also the Professional Language Association of Nevada where I currently serve as president. I hope to utilize the personal & professional connections and partnerships that I have forged while serving these organizations as an asset to my time on the AATSP board. Thank you for your consideration of my candidacy, & I hope to have the opportunity to serve the AATSP as 9-12 Secondary Representative. Thank you, gracias, obrigado.
