Statement of Candidacy

My name is Megan Myers and I am honored to be a candidate for the Board of Directors as a College/University Representative.

Like all of us, I’m passionate about teaching languages. I’ve taught both hybrid and online courses, instructed various languages (from Spanish and Portuguese to Haitian Kreyòl), taught at the elementary and university level, direct a study abroad program in the Dominican Republic, and even teach spin classes in Spanish. AATSP provides a space where the myriad facets of language teaching collide in a collaborative and energizing manner and this is why AATSP is an organization that I support fully.

On the state level, I am currently the VP of the Iowa Chapter. On the national level, I recently served on the AATSP awards selection committee and am actively involved with AATSP journals. I am currently a Production Assistant for Hispania as well as the Social Media Managing Editor of the SPR. I presented at four of the five most recent AATSP national conferences. If elected, I promise to ensure that the presence and importance of higher education within the AATSP remains essential to the organization. Additionally, I hope to develop more ways for chapters to connect and share ideas throughout the year, to incorporate opportunities related to health and wellness and to establish AATSP sponsored child care and designated lactation rooms at our annual conferences, and to better publicize AATSP awards and scholarships.

I would welcome the opportunity to serve the AATSP. Thank you/gracias/obrigada for considering my candidacy.
