Statement of Candidacy

It’s a great honor to be a candidate for College/University Representative on the AATSP Board of Directors, and I hope to have the opportunity to contribute further to this outstanding organization. To prepare for this position, I have broad experience working proactively with various professional boards: I served on the Association of College Honor Societies’ Board from 2006-09 and on its Council since 2004, I am currently a member of Sigma Delta Pi’s National Executive Committee since 1997, a member of the Executive Committee of the Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Association since 2014, and I founded the Hispanic Studies Advisory Board at the College of Charleston in 2017.

I have also worked directly and extensively with the AATSP as chair of the Mario Vargas Llosa Award Committee since 2010, Founding Chair of the AATSP's Finance Committee since 2016, a member of the AATSP's Nomination Committee from 2015-17, a member of the AATSP's Executive Director Search Committee from 2016-17, and a past member of the AATSP's Board of Directors from 2015-17. We are all acutely aware of the current threats to foreign language education at all levels---K-12, community college and 4-year universities—which is why the work of boards of directors such as the AATSP's is more critical than ever, why I am seeking election to this Board position, and why I continue to devote much of my time to such organizations as the AATSP. Thank you.
