Statement of Candidacy

Esteemed colleagues,

I am honored to be a candidate for President Elect of the AATSP, an organization of dedicated colleagues who seek to pass our love and appreciation for the Spanish and Portuguese languages and cultures to our students.

My involvement with the AATSP has been very rewarding. I helped reinstate Ohio’s AATSP Chapter, serving as Treasurer, and served as State Director of the SHH and Regional Coordinator for the National Spanish Exam. During those years, I had the great honor of being awarded the SHH John Temple State Director of the Year.

In 2015, I accepted a position at Community School of Naples, in Florida, where I continue work with the SHH and NSE. That year I was elected AATSP Secondary Representative, spending three fulfilling years on the Board of Directors, rotating off January 1. As Secondary Committee Chair, I facilitated the development of the survey that has provided the data to understand our members’ needs, supporting greater collaboration across levels K-16.

As I listened to Sheri’s Executive Director Report in San Diego, I contemplated the slide entitled “Challenges Looming,” pondering the opportunities presented through such challenges. I would welcome the opportunity to serve our membership, participating in “leading and adapting to our transformational landscape,” as well as balancing the needs of our members while creating greater harmony across educational levels, with deep respect and admiration for the part that teachers of all levels play in our wonderful, amazing AATSP Professional Learning Community.

Muchas gracias, obrigada,

Parthena Draggett
