E1: Southern California Missions

Time:  8:45am-4:00pm

Cost: $70

Itinerary: Join us as we visit Mission San Luis Rey. You will be transported to the past, imagining the everyday life of the Franciscan Friars and the Native Americans who inhabited the Mission. You will also see how the Mission is still used today, one of the few still in use as it was intended by the Padres.  Continue on to Mission San Juan Capistrano. Famous for its swallows, today it is a monument to California's multi-cultural history, embracing its Native American, Spanish, Mexican and European heritage. Visit the Serra Chapel, Padres Quarters, Industrial Area, Soldiers Barracks, Cemetery and The Great Stone Church.

What to wear and bring along: It is strongly recommended that participants wear cool, comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Participants may also want to bring along a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or an umbrella in case of rain.

E2: Colonial San Diego

Time:  11:45am-3:30pm

Cost: $35

Itinerary: Join us as we visit Cabrillo National Monument which commemorates João Rodrigues Cabrilho/Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's exploration of the Pacific Coast in 1542. Continue on for a docent guided tour of Missión Basílica San Diego de Alcalá, the first of the 21 California Missions founded by Fray Junípero Serra in 1769. Finally, explore Old Town State Historic Park which preserves aspects of San Diego's Mexican and early-American heritage from 1821 to 1872.

What to wear and bring along: It is strongly recommended that participants wear cool, comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Participants may also want to bring along a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and/or an umbrella in case of rain.

E4: Portuguese Connection to San Diego

Time:  8:45am – 1:00pm 

Cost: $50

Itinerary: Was the first explorer of California a Spanish Cabrillo or a Portuguese Cabrilho? Join us as we unfold this mystery by a visit to a national monument dedicated to this explorer and experience the best view of the San Diego skyline. Continue on for a visit to the Little Portugal area of San Diego and visit the Portuguese Historical Society, a Portuguese chapel and church, a market that sells items from Portugal, and finally the Tunaman’s memorial erected to honor the Portuguese community of San Diego.  Lunch will be on your own at Point Loma Seafoods.

San Diego Maritime Museum Excursion/Lunch

Date: Thursday, July 11, 2019

Time: 1:15pm-4:45pm

Cost: $95

Itinerary: Participants will be picked up at the conference and will transfer by private bus to The San Diego Maritime Museum. We will have a Spanish Tapas lunch at the Spanish Galleon San Salvador. During lunch, we will have Brazilian band playing Bossa Nova. After lunch, all participants will have a guided tour of the San Diego Maritime Museum.
