Statement of Candidacy

It is an honor to run for high school representative on the Executive Board of the AATSP. I am seeking to serve the organization that has enriched my teaching experience and the learning of my students and to contribute to its future. High school teachers have a pivotal role in guiding students between childhood and young adulthood, building on their early experiences and preparing them for college and work. On the Executive Board, I hope to contribute to connecting professionals at all levels, recognizing that all teachers – from early childhood through the PhD - work together to promote our students’ language development and growth as human beings. My professional life reflects this connectedness. I teach for Dual Credit in high school and work with college faculty at the AP reading and on College Board committees. My high school Spanish students work regularly with elementary immersion and dual language teachers and students. I meet often with our Junior High immersion teachers strengthening our programs. Our local AATSP chapter connects professionals from Kindergarten through University. Although our professional lives are very different, one goal unites us. My goal, if elected to serve you, is to increase communication and collaboration between the different constituencies at the national level, recognizing the unique contributions each groups makes for our students. Thank you for this opportunity to serve the profession in this way.
