Tuesday, May 1, 2018

In the current issue of Hispania (March 2018; 101.1), María M. Carreira penned a Special Feature in response to the recent national report on language education in the United States by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She calls for strategic inclusion of heritage learners of Spanish in language programs. Her essay is available on Hispania’s Open Access Editor Messages & Guest Editorials page.

The March issue boasts a variety of articles, including essays on forms of address in Spanish, television series in the classroom, preservice world language teacher training, clitic placement in Spanish, characteristics of Puerto Rican and Dominican Spanish in Massachusetts, analyses of sports newspaper headlines, dementia in Elvira Lindo’s novel Una palabra tuya, silence in Jenn Díaz’s Es un decir, and a comparative study of Cervantes and Ariosto. The book/media review section includes 20 reviews of a variety of books, including Bill VanPatten’s While We’re on the Topic: BVP on Language, Acquisition, and Classroom Practice and the MLA Handbook.
