The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) seeks applications from qualified persons to serve as the next Editor of Hispania.

Hispania is the official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The journal, which is published quarterly (March, June, September, and December), has a wide international and domestic readership online and in print. Hispania has received various recognitions and awards during the journal’s 100 years of publication. While its targeted audience is teachers of Spanish and Portuguese at all educational levels, the journal is widely recognized as the most comprehensive publication for the academic discussion of applied linguistics, cultural studies, culture, film, language, linguistics, literary criticism, literature, and pedagogy having to do with Spanish and Portuguese.

The successful applicant will be a senior scholar in Spanish or Portuguese with high standards in research, writing, and publication. Editorial experience should include familiarity with online submission sites and the production process of a scholarly journal. Prior experience with publication in Hispania is desired. The Editor oversees a staff that includes the Managing Editor, Book/Media Review Editor, and Assistant Managing Editor as well as leading the Editorial Board of Associate Editors.

The Editor receives travel funds, an honorarium and/or compensation to support course buy-outs. The host institution of the Editor may provide additional tangible support for this highly commendable professional activity, which should be considered both individually and institutionally prestigious. Applicants should include a detailed letter describing their experience and qualifications, a vision for the future of the journal, current curriculum vitae, and three professional references. The deadline for submission is October 15, 2017. Telephone interviews of finalists will be held in November. The targeted date for the beginning of the position is April 1, 2018.
