Spain's Vila-Matas to receive Mexican literary prize

Tuesday, September 8, 2015   (0 Comments)

Spaniard Enrique Vila-Matas was announced Monday as the winner of the 2015 Guadalajara International Book Fair Prize in Romance Languages for a body of work that "captivates because of its critical intelligence, its humor and irony."

The 67-year-old Barcelona native is one of the authors who has contributed most to renewing the literature of Europe and Latin America with a body of work in which distinct literary genres are linked and the frontiers between essay and fiction are blurred, the panel of judges said.

"The work of Vila-Matas incessantly questions the fragile condition of literature and reflects on its limits and challenges in the contemporary world," the jury said in a statement read by Patricia Martinez.
