Foreign language learning and teaching have always driven my professional goals. I have taught in the public education setting for 10 years. I have presented at the AATSP National Conference twice in collaboration with other secondary and university level educators. I have presented at our state level foreign language conference numerous times in addition to my position as a Board member. I also serve as a sponsor and past director for SHH, including organizing a state level conference for SHH students and sponsors.

Statement of Candidacy

I am honored to be running in this election for the Executive Council as your Secondary Representative. It is a privilege to help colleagues grow professionally and have new opportunities! Serving on this Executive Council, I can continue the work I began 10 years ago when I entered into Secondary Education. Each year I coordinate and administer the National Spanish Exam at multiple levels, I have sponsored our chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica for 8 years, I have served as State Director for SHH and on the Board of Directors for our local AATSP Chapter.

AATSP is dedicated to promoting language learning and teaching, which starts with our focus on students, and students at any level. I have taught all levels of Spanish during my career at both secondary and university levels, so I understand the value of professional development and professional organizations in ensuring success for our students. As an AATSP member and chapter board member I have worked with teachers in my school and district to recruit not only new members but leaders as well. Collaboration among elementary, secondary, and higher education professionals is extremely valuable to our continuing success. I have presented at the AATSP conference with both secondary and university level colleagues in the past. Serving on the AATSP Executive Board will allow me to continue that commitment to help in providing quality professional opportunities for colleagues at any level.

Foreign language education is my passion! There is great benefit for our students with collaboration from the primary to secondary to university levels. Working on the Executive Council of AATSP, I commit to active involvement with total dedication, innovative solutions to improve involvement and communications, and a focus on you and your students.
