Paragraph CV

I have a BSED in Foreign Language Education from the University of Georgia.  I have also completed graduate work in information science through Valdosta State University.  I am a Georgia certified teacher for K-12 in Spanish education, as well as Health and P.E.  I have been teaching elementary grades 1-4 at Athens Academy for 13 years.  I have also taught English as a second language (ESOL), adult computer literacy in both Spanish and English, and adult Spanish classes.  I wrote a training manual for ESOL volunteer instructors for the Athens Regional Library System through an American Dream grant that is free and available on the library’s Website. I participate in various professional organizations; among these are AATSP, FLAG, and ACTFL.  I served as the K-8 representative on the Executive Board for the Georgia Chapter of AATSP for several years, and I have been the AATSP national poster contest coordinator since 2008.  My goals as a language teacher are to teach students a love for language learning, to encourage them, and give them the tools they need to communicate successfully.

Statement of Candidacy

I am excited at the privilege of being nominated to serve on the Executive Council of AATSP as the K-8 Representative.

I have wanted to make a difference in the lives of children for as long as I can remember. Teaching is the art of molding and shaping a child into what he will offer the world for the rest of his life. My responsibility as a language teacher is not only to teach academics, but to also teach and promote cultural diversity, respect, and appreciation. Education is not just a career; it is a calling to change the world. I am proud to be among other educators working to fulfill those same goals. I have been an AATSP member for as long as I have been an educator. I served several years on the Executive board of the Georgia Chapter of AATSP as the K-8 representative, and coordinated the Georgia Chapter K-8 poster contest. I now coordinate the national AATSP poster contest, and I have for several years. AATSP is a powerful group of educators who are all working tobring students into a global society equipped with strong language abilities.

As the K-8 Representative, I will share my passion for teaching students the importance for language study with others, and my dedication to this professional organization whose priority is to bring teachers together. If elected, I will pursue ways to guide and support other AATSP educators on their mission to help children expand their horizons through language learning.
