Statement of Candidacy

It would be a great honor to join the Executive Council of the AATSP, an organization that has played a leading role in our profession for almost one hundred years.

I have been in the teaching profession for more than thirty years, and active in the AATSP, where I have been a regular presenter, worked with the local chapter, chaired a Northeast AATSP Biennial Conference, and editor of ENLACE.

In addition to teaching and research, I have had numerous leadership positions at the local and national levels that have given me an understanding of foreign language issues and practices in the present, and a vision for the future:

· I was president of the Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey (representing teachers levels K-16);

· I am a reviewer for NCATE applying ACTFL standards to accredit foreign language teaching programs in the U.S.

· For the last 17 years I have been AP Reader and Table Leader for the College Board.

· I am OPI certified by ACTFL,

· and familiar with outcome assessment and teaching technologies.

If elected I will work hard to advance and promote the growth and participation in the AATSP of teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, from K-12 to the University level to better articulate our needs and coordinate our efforts.

The teaching profession faces difficult times; we need to work together to advocate for our profession at the local and national levels, and I will do so the best of my abilities.

Todos a una!
