Somos Nós: Infusing Brazil into the Classroom

LARC, along with Vanderbilt and the University of Georgia, is sponsoring a workshop on Brazilian culture and teaching Portuguese. K-16 educators of any discipline and grade-level are welcome to apply to attend this 5 day institute. Throughout the week, educators will work to develop interdisciplinary curricula, which they can bring back to their schools to teach and share with colleagues.

Title: Somos Nós: Diverse Brazil

Brazilian Culture and Language for the K-16 Classroom

Description: Educators from any discipline and grade level will benefit from this interactive, 20-hour program on one of the world’s most diverse countries in the world, Brazil. Throughout this institute, attendees will explore the history of Brazil, Portuguese language, capoeira, biodiversity in Brazil, social change in Brazil, public opinion data in Brazil, as well as participate in interactive, reflective workshops on best practices in the language classroom and strategies to incorporate language into interdisciplinary classrooms. Educators will collaborate to design interdisciplinary curricular resources for use in their classrooms and schools. This program is sponsored by Vanderbilt University, Tulane University, and the University of Georgia through a Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center grant.
