“Leadership” in the Language Classroom

Webinar Time: 4:00 p m US EST

From Washington DC to Wall Street, there is agreement that future international leaders need to be both multilingual and culturally adept to be able to navigate and lead in the 21st century.  Notably the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages recently released theACTFL 21st Century Skills Map P-21 (2011).  The skills map for language education contains “leadership and responsibility” as a critical skill for the future.  Knowing multiple languages and cultures helps produce good leaders.

Based on foundational research done at the United States Air Force Academy conducted by the speaker and others, this presentation includes strategies and examples of ways that leadership development can be included meaningfully in your language and literature classes of all levels (K-16+).  Participants will also be asked to contribute ideas on how to build leadership development into our language curricula as a value-added component for all language students.
