Using Technology in Second Language Teaching
July 22–26, 2019

Presenters: Dan Soneson, Marlene Johnshoy, and Adolfo Carillo Cabello

Using technology to promote students' engagement and foster the ability to communicate in the target language is at the heart of this summer institute. The three communicative modes described in the World Readiness Standards (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) provide an excellent framework for the implementation of technology in second language teaching.

Applying this and other pedagogical frameworks, participants will explore a wide variety of technology tools and techniques through demonstration and in-class activities. Participants will examine best practices for incorporating technology into the curriculum to achieve pedagogical goals. The institute provides hands-on practice from both the student and teacher perspectives, and opportunities for small- and large-group discussion. A large online collection of resources will give teachers a wide array of additional options and tools to investigate. Participants will develop technology-enriched activities that they can incorporate into their curriculum.
