Emily Spinelli, AATSP Executive Director
spinelliThe Executive Director of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) is the chief administrative officer of the organization and is responsible for all management functions of the organization. The principal task of the Executive Director is to help the AATSP realize its mission to support the study and teaching of Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian, and other related languages, literatures, and cultures.

As Executive Director I work with the AATSP National Office Staff, the Board of Directors, the Directors of our many programs such as the National Spanish Examinations, the National Portuguese Examinations, the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad, the Editors of our scholarly journal Hispania, our online newsletter Announcements and Reminders and The Portuguese Newsletter and many volunteer members of our Committees and Task Forces to offer professional development opportunities and provide for the exchange of pedagogical and scholarly information. I also work to obtain funding and sponsorships for our annual conference, our study-abroad scholarship programs, and our award program. During my frequent travels within the United States and abroad, I promote the AATSP and advocate for the teaching and learning of Spanish and Portuguese in a variety of educational settings and at all levels of learning. Lastly, I work with other language organizations to increase the number of foreign language programs and to improve the quality of foreign language education in general.
