The Portuguese Newsletter Section Overview

 

The Portuguese Newsletter is a biannual bulletin that honors individuals with outstanding contributions to the Portuguese-speaking academic community and informs readers of professional and academic news and events. Below is a descriptive overview of the individual sections published in the newsletter.


DESTAQUE

Destaque takes the form of an interview. Interviewees are selected by invitation, and have included Jon Tolman, Clea Rameh, Claude Hulet, Lynn Sandstedt, Onésimo Almeida, Conceição Evaristo, Nelson Vieira, Milton Azevedo, Gregory Rabassa, Anna Klobucka, Robert Skidmore, Laurentino Gomes, John Chasteen, Peggy Sharpe, Margo Milleret, Luiz Fernando Valente, and others.


PONTO DE VISTA

Ponto de Vista presents an individual’s point of view on a topic of interest to the readership. This section is intended to stimulate conversation by publishing views from diverse intellectual and professional backgrounds. The Portuguese Newsletter has been fortunate to publish the work of a number of prominent scholars, including Dario Borin, Lyris Wiedemann, Tony Cowles, Robert Anderson, Sílvia Oliveira, Agripino Silveira, Mary Risner, Matilde Scaramucci, Paul Chandler, Ana Clotilde Thomé, and others.


ADDITIONAL SECTIONS

Other sections include Pingo Poético (original creative works); Bookstore (news on books, films, and articles); ETC (news on conferences, lectures, and presentations that have taken place during the previous semester); Agenda (news on upcoming conferences and events); Phi Lambda Beta (introduces new members of the Portuguese Honor Society Phi Lambda Beta); and Oxente (honors individuals who have achieved a milestone in their careers).
