Academic Paper (30 minutes) or Panel of Academic Papers (75 minutes)
Academic papers present research about a topic relating to language, literature or linguistics. An academic paper is 15-20 minutes in length and is read aloud to the audience. A panel lasts 75 minutes and consists of two- four academic papers treating a similar theme or topic. There should be time for questions and discussion after papers have been read.
We encourage the submission of papers as a panel of three or four presenters. A chair, selected by the panel members, is responsible for submitting the proposal and all information concerning the panel. During the panel presentation, the chair serves as the moderator for the session. The chair may also read a paper during the session.
We also accept academic papers submitted by individuals who have not formed a panel. In this case, the AATSP Conference Program Staff may form panels by combining individual submissions that treat similar topics. Once combined, the newly formed panel members will select a chair for the panel.
Some academic papers concern unique topics and cannot be combined. They will be presented alone, in 30-minute sessions.
