Summary of CV

Megan Villanueva is a strong Spanish teacher who has participated in multiple opportunities to help with curriculum development and alignment to Common Core. Has led extra-curricular activities for students and chaperoned several field trips/dances. Has also led a couple of workshops for teachers during professional development time on different ways to incorporate technology into teaching as an augmentation to the curriculum as opposed to a replacement for standard procedure. Participated in leadership workshops and training as those opportunities arose. Is excited to continue training as a leader by completing the CT TEAM mentor training this October. Will then mentor new teachers to the profession.

Formerly a restaurant manager, was responsible for providing constructive feedback to employees, coaching them as necessary and appropriate, evaluating their performances using a rubric, and managing the chaos of a busy restaurant. Also had to create agendas prior to weekly and monthly meetings, troubleshoot problems with creative solutions, and maintain organized records. Has strong time management skills and great attention to detail which have been and continue to be critically important to being successful.

Statement of Candidacy

My name is Megan Villanueva, and I have been teaching 7th and 8th grade Spanish for the past three years. I currently teach in Glastonbury, CT, which gives me great insight into the importance of an articulated K-12 program. Our program starts at the youngest level, and students’ pronunciation, comprehension, and low anxiety with the language learning process are clearly evident. They wholeheartedly embrace learning Hispanic culture as well.

As a professional educator, I am strongly committed to doing what is best for my students, incorporating 21st century skills, and promoting and nurturing language learning in the early grades to ensure better linguistic proficiency in later grades. The value of being proficient in two or more languages is undeniable and will help our students greatly as they embark upon their journeys as global citizens.

I’m very organized, manage time well, welcome new ideas and feedback, and pride myself on being an effective communicator. I have a prior management background, and that skill set is a real asset in managing my teaching life and classroom. I’m prepared to learn, and contribute value to the Board of Directors. We will be able to share and discuss different ideas, teaching philosophies, and program concepts. Furthermore, I am very excited by the prospect of working with the coordinators of two such important programs as the Poster Contest and the Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad of AATSP.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my candidacy. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards,

Megan Villanueva
