Statement of Candidacy

The Spanish language and culture have been my passion ever since I was inspired by my seventh grade teacher. Since then I have always tried to share my love of the language with my students and colleagues. Through continuing studies and extensive travel I acquired the language skills, but the AATSP has been the one organization providing the support of a national network to offer professional opportunities and connections. Through its publications, contests, and conferences, the members and their students are informed, honored, and educated. I have been a member of the AATSP for my entire 20-year career as a Spanish teacher and an Executive Council member of the Chicago Area Chapter for 19 of those years. In that time I have served as President twice and Co-Vice-President. My own high school students and colleagues have benefited from the many chapter and national opportunities to excel. I have presented at workshops as well as co-coordinated our Poetry Contest, the NSE and the NSE Awards Tea to honor our winning students. I feel that my years of teaching from the College, High School, Corporate, and Elementary Levels give me a very special sensitivity and insight to the needs of all our members. As the High School Representative, I would use my leadership skills, experience, and passion to maintain the excellence of the organization and strengthen the bond and participation among the membership.
