The AATSP Outstanding Service Award is given to a member of the Association who has made outstanding service contributions to our organization. Selection criteria include holding leadership positions within the Association and/or one of its chapters, serving as a chair or member of important Association committees, writing for or editing Association publications, and/or representing the AATSP in a national or international capacity.
The 2010 recipient of the AATSP Outstanding Service Award is Gladys Wisnefski, from Oshkosh Public Schools; Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
GladysWisnefski has served the AATSP in a variety of capacities including her four-year term as the President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the AATSP and then as a member of the Wisconsin Board of Directors since 2002. She is also responsible for organizing the annual Wisconsin Spanish Oral Competition and has been a frequent presenter at the state language conference. Gladys is being honored here today primarily for her work within the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. A colleague wrote that during her 40 years of teaching, Gladys has been the sponsor for three different chapters of the SHH and has "encouraged thousands of students to continue their study of Spanish.” She has also served as a state and regional director of the SHH for twelve years. But most of us know Gladys as the Editor of ¡Albricias!, the quarterly literary magazine of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica that showcases student work in Spanish throughout the nation. Glady has worked tirelessly during her twelve years as Editor to improve the content and quality of the journal so that today the poetry, short stories, essays, illustrations, and photographs are models of excellence of what students can accomplish. In the words of a colleague, "It is a great pleasure to recommend such an outstanding professional for this award.”
