Domnita
Dumitrescu, the Book/Media Review Editor ofHispania, participated in the XIV Congress of the
Association of the Academies of the Spanish Language, held in Panama City,
November 20–25. Dumitrescu was part of the delegation of the North American
Academy of the Spanish Language, and she presented the paper entitled "Reflexiones
sobre el español en Estados Unidos, a la luz del censo de 2010.” She had the
opportunity to converse, among other personalities, with Mario Vargas Llosa,
the winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature, who received the Gold Medal
of the Association at this conference. She told him about the upcoming review
of his most recent novel, which will appear in the December issue of Hispania, and about the fact that the
journal’s Managing Editor, David P. Wiseman, is an expert in his work.
