Full-time Term Faculty Position in Spanish
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a renewable, full-time, term position in Spanish to begin in the fall of 2009. Term faculty at the University of San Francisco are full members of the faculty union, receive the same salary and benefits package as tenure-track faculty, and are eligible for promotion to term associate and term full professorships.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. or an MA in Spanish language or linguistics, expertise in language pedagogy, second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or computer assisted language learning, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish, university teaching experience, and excellent communication skills in English.
The teaching load is three courses per semester. Salary and benefits are competitive. The candidate will teach lower-division Spanish language courses including freshman classes (Spanish 101 and 102), and work with the Spanish faculty on the following: development of course curricula and teaching materials, integration of educational technology, improvement of teaching methods and techniques, supervision of conversation tutors and writing-center tutors, advising of Spanish majors and minors, organization of cultural events for the majors and minors, study-abroad advising, and assistance with the USF Spanish student club. The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental meetings and committee work, to provide college and university service, and to be actively involved in foreign language associations.

College of the Atlantic seeks a full-time faculty member in Spanish and Foreign Languages to begin no later that August 2009. The successful candidate must have experience teaching Spanish and will be responsible for teaching it at the intermediate and advanced levels. The candidate must also have the ability to teach at least one other language at the introductory and intermediate levels. Also strongly desired is the ability to serve as an effective advisor and support person for students pursuing studies in less commonly taught languages. This is a temporary, replacement position which could start as early as the winter or spring trimesters of 2009.
This position involves teaching five classes a year. Additional responsibilities include: advising students on language learning, directing final projects and independent studies, and collaborating with a visiting Spanish professor associated with the college's Yucatan Winter Term Program. This position requires evidence of excellent language teaching skills, fluency in Spanish, and competence to teach at least one other language. A Ph.D in foreign languages or a closely related field is strongly preferred and the ability to teach in multiple languages is strongly desired.

We seek candidates who have expertise in Spanish linguistics, sociolinguistics, and/or ethnography-based linguistic anthropology who are able to teach upper-level courses in Spanish for Spanish majors, such as courses in the history of the Spanish language; cultures of Spanish-speaking peoples; literature, film and/or new media in Spanish. Other specialties could include theories of translation, second language acquisition, applied linguistics, language and identity, or discourse analysis. The candidate should also be able to teach general courses in linguistics for majors and non-majors, which would be taught in English. Applicants should have an active research agenda - indicated by grants received and a good record of publications - that will contribute to the strong research profile of the department. Applicants should also demonstrate ability in classroom teaching and advising, including the use of innovative and online methods of student engagement. The Department of Anthropology and Languages positions itself at the leading edge of developments that seek to re-orient language teaching towards transcultural and translinguistic competence. Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Spanish
The Department of Anthropology & Languages at the University of Missouri-St Louis is seeking two non-tenure-track, full-time Lecturers or Assistant Teaching Professors in Spanish, effective January 12th, 2009 (start date may be postponed until Aug 17th, 2009, if necessary). Minimum requirements are:
· Masters degree in Spanish, or Masters degree in related area plus 18-graduate hours in Spanish,
· native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English, and
· demonstrated excellence in teaching, including the effective use of technology and familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines, in both instruction and assessment.
Duties include teaching 11-15 credit hours of undergraduate courses of Spanish language, culture, and/or literature per semester (day and/or evening classes), advising, and service.
Candidates at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor must have a minimum of 4 years of successful university-level teaching experience with a documented record of excellence in service, advising, and other professional activities.
The anticipated salary is $35,000 with full benefits.

The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for a tenure track appointment beginning in August 2009. As part of both a land grant and a research intensive institution, the Department has a strong commitment across research, teaching, and service that promotes interdisciplinary scholarship to enhance the lives of children, families, schools and communities, thereby strengthening the relationships among them. This position will provide leadership in Second Language Education at the initial certification, graduate and doctoral levels. This position responds to the marked increase over the past decade in English Language Learners across Nebraska and surrounding states and the expansion of undergraduate and graduate foreign language education programs in response to increased levels of modern language instruction in area high schools. The department has identified Literacy and Second Language Education as emerging “areas of excellence” in the immediate future.
This faculty member will be expected to: a) teach undergraduate and graduate coursework focusing on applied linguistics, second language education, and/or ESOL/Foreign Language pedagogy; b) advise and supervise graduate students at the certification, masters and doctoral levels as appropriate to rank; c) conduct a scholarly program of research publication and external funding as appropriate to rank; d) provide leadership in program development; and e) provide leadership in outreach to schools, other educational institutions and communities.
Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in applied linguistics, foreign language education, ESOL education, or a related field; 2 years teaching experience in grades K-12; demonstrated potential for scholarly activity; evidence of potential for teaching and advising success. Preference will be given to applicants with participation in securing external funding; experiences working with students from diverse cultures and languages; fluency and literacy in a language(s) other than English; and potential for interdisciplinary program/course development.
