Highly Desirable: Ability to teach courses on translation/interpretation and Spanish for the Professions Medical and Business Spanish.

Lecturer of Spanish
The Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of Denver will hire a Lecturer of Spanish to begin September 1, 2009. This is a non-tenure track position with full benefits. The World Languages faculty of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is actively seeking applications for the full-time position of Spanish Faculty. The purpose of the World Languages program at IMSA is to prepare leaders for the 21st century by teaching students to engage, on a deep, intellectual, and personal level in new ways of seeing, thinking, interacting, and communicating effectively with the people of our world. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Academic Director of Foreign Languages supports the Academic Director by providing intellectual and administrative assistance in the leadership and management of undergraduate foreign language courses (including courses in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese) and the Certificate in Workplace Spanish. Position is fulltime and based in Maryland. Specific duties include:
• Curriculum Management: play a vital role in the design, development, maintenance, and assessment of innovative online language course curriculum, particularly in Spanish language, in collaboration with the Academic Director.
• Faculty Management: assist with the general management and development of languages faculty, including hiring, staffing, training, and evaluating adjunct faculty teaching a range of languages and levels, both face to face and online.
• Student Affairs: handle student complaints and enrollment issues, investigate incidents of academic dishonesty, administer language placement tests, liaise with Student Advising, participate in student clubs and events.
• Performing other job-related duties as assigned by the Academic Director and Assistant Dean.
• Teaching one 3 credit course per year.
QUALIFICATIONS: MA in Spanish language and/or literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, or second language acquisition required; ABD or PhD preferred. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written communication, and computer literacy skills required. Minimum of three years experience teaching foreign language (preferably Spanish), including beginning levels, required. Evidence of administrative experience in a college-level institution and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students preferred. Knowledge of language assessment, CALL/CMC, and/or distance language learning and technologies a plus.
