Subject: Music and Language Learning
For my first graders, one aspect of the Spanish curriculum is music. I use many authentic children's songs to teach content.  I teach songs like "De colores," "Los elefantes," "El burrito enfermo," "Juanito cuando baila," and "Don Gato."  I make an interactive activity, usually on the smartboard, or a poster with velcro to reinforce the concepts.  I invent simple gestures, or for some songs - even a group dance activity - to go with the words of the song to practice.  I will provide them with a lyric sheet with a coloring activity so that while they are coloring I can play the song multiple times.  Later in the term, I will review different songs and recycle the content by playing the song for the children on my guitar.
