Using Literature to Teach Language and Culture in the Foreign Language Classroom

This presentation addresses the Brazilian literary genre of crônica and how it can be used to teach language, culture, urban memory and regional identity.

The lecture will provide an overview of the characteristic features of crônica and how it was implemented in Brazil, demonstrate how it can be used to teach Brazilian language and culture, and provide several examples of original activites that have been used successfully in the classroom.

Although the main focus of this presentation is Brazilian Portuguese, the strategies and activities demonstrated can be adapted to other languages and cultures and may inspire the audience to create their own engaging materials.

Join us for coffee, tea, and great discussions!
