On February 28, 2014, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, is preparing a one-day workshop about Teletandem and Teacher Mediation specially designed for middle and high school teachers of Portuguese and instructors of Portuguese Heritage Language Programs. The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 9:00am – 1:00pm and from 2:30pm to 6:30pm at the Edward B. Bunn, S.J. Intercultural Center at Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

Teletandem is a virtual context of foreign language teaching/learning within which pairs of native (or competent) speakers of different languages work collaboratively in order to learn the language of the other. By means of VOIP technology (voice, text and webcam images), each student plays the role of learner for one hour by speaking and practicing the language of his partner through virtual intercontinental collaboration.
