The 2014 Colloquium of the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers
(NYSAFLT) will be held at the Best Western Sovereign in Albany, New York. It is
being co-sponsored by the Capitol Organization of Language Teachers (COLT). This
year’s theme is “Bringing the Common Core to Life: Building Literacy through
Communication.” Featured Panelists include: Marina Moran, Director of ELA, Harrison
CSD, Lillian Carey, Director of LOTE, Hauppauge Public Schools, and President of the
Foreign Language Association of Chairpersons and Supervisors (FLACS), and Laurie
Clarcq, Marcus Whitman HS, Rushville, NY.
The NYSAFLT Colloquium is a forum in which LOTE colleagues share perspectives,
exchange ideas, and develop responses to issues of importance to the LOTE education
community. At the 2014 Colloquium, participants will focus on how to build literacy
skills in languages other than English with a focus on the Common Core Standards.
