Dear AATSP Colleagues:

 I am writing to let you know about an in-service training opportunity available to Spanish teachers, called Preparación Online (http://preparacion.arizona.edu).

 Preparación Online grew out of a series of projects funded by the U.S. Dept of Ed that use translation and interpretation (T&I) studies to improve Latino students' academic engagement and performance (please seehttp://preparacion.arizona.edu for more information about these projects). These projects have proven very effective and have shown that T&I training can have a profound impact on students.

 Our current project, Preparación Online, consists of an online teacher in-service training on the effective classroom use of T&I curriculum units that we have developed, which include an Introductory unit as well as units focused on Criminal Justice and Healthcare. They are especially valuable to teachers of heritage speakers.

 We are looking for teachers who would like to participate in the online in-service, scheduled for June 24-August 16, 2013. Upon completion, teachers will receive a Certificate of Completion indicating 80 professional development hours. Teachers will also receive three turn-key T&I units, complete with lesson plans and materials.
