Two Fellowship Announcements

2012 Graduate Fellows Program

2012 Junior Faculty Fellows Program

The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), Inc., is now accepting applications for two Fellowship Programs: (1) The AAHHE Graduate Student Fellows Program (GSFP) and (2) The AAHHE Junior Faculty Fellows Program. Graduate and Faculty Fellows will attend the 2012 AAHHE National Conference: "Acknowledging our Similarities, Uniting Our Differences,” which will be held March 8-10, 2012, at the Hilton Costa Mesa Hotel in Costa Mesa, CA. Participation in both fellowship programs will begin on Tuesday March 6th, continue throughout the conference, and end on the evening of Saturday March 10th.

AAHHE Graduate Student Fellows Program Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be Hispanic and/or Latina/o;
  • Be enrolled in full-time graduate study in a master’s or doctoral program;
  • Demonstrate academic potential through past experiences and future career goals;
  • Aspire to enter the professoriate and/or administration in higher education;
  • Exhibit a track record of service to the Latina/o community.

The AAHHE Junior Faculty Fellows Program Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be Hispanic and/or Latina/o;
  • Be a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in her/his first, second, or third year;
  • Demonstrate scholarly or teaching potential through current scholarship record or teaching performance (scholarship will be examined for university-level faculty, whereas teaching performance will be examined for community college faculty);

· Exhibit a track record of service to the Latina/o community.

The AAHHE Graduate Student Fellowship includes conference registration fees, special events, hotel accommodations, and travel funding. AAHHE will extend invitations to 15 fully funded students. An additional 5 fellows will be invited to participate in the fellowship program, provided they are able to secure travel funding from their college/university (conference registration and lodging still provided by AAHHE).

The AAHHE Junior Faculty Fellowship includes conference registration fees, special events, hotel accommodations, and travel funding. AAHHE will extend invitations to 10 fully funded faculty. An additional 5fellows will be invited to participate in the fellowship program, provided they are able to secure travel funding from their college/university (conference registration and lodging still provided by AAHHE).

Graduate Fellowship recipients are expected to engage throughout the conference through the following:

  • Participate in all fellowship program and conference events (March 6th – March 10th);
  • Provide staffing support for AAHHE activities and interact with AAHHE members and conference attendees;
  • Engage in informal discussions on research interests with AAHHE members;
  • Develop a Policy Brief under the guidance of an AAHHE member.

Faculty Fellowship recipients are expected to engage throughout the conference through the following:

  • Attend the entire conference, including special events sponsored by AAHHE;
  • Mentor graduate students from the Graduate Fellows Program through presentations and one-on-one meetings, and serve as discussants for the Graduate Student Research Symposium;
  • Formally present her/his research to other AAHHE Faculty Fellows;
  • Informally discuss her/his research and projects with AAHHE members;
  • Participate in pláticas on teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership.

Graduate Student Fellows Application Procedures:
To apply for an AAHHE Graduate Student Fellowship, submit the following materials no later than Friday, September 30, 2011 by 5pm (EST) at: http://aahhe.org/gradStudentProgramForm.aspx

  • Application form
  • Statement of interest (no more than 2 single-spaced pages or 1,000 words)
  • Resume/Curriculum Vita
  • One letter of support from an advisor, supervisor, or faculty member (additional letters will not be considered)

Junior Faculty Fellows Application Procedures:
To apply for an AAHHE Junior Faculty Fellowship, submit the following materials no later than Friday, September 30, 2011 by 5pm (EST) at: http://aahhe.org/facprogform.aspx

  • Application form
  • Statement of interest (no more than 2 single-spaced pages or 1,000 words)
  • Resume/Curriculum Vita
  • Letter of support (from colleague or supervisor)
  • Writing sample or other evidence of scholarly accomplishment
