Call for Papers: The Role of Poetry in the Modern World: Approaches to Teaching Poetry in Spanish and Portuguese Courses

This special AATSP session will address the overall topic of the 2011 SAMLA Conference (Nov. 4-6, Atlanta, GA) —The Role of Poetry in the Modern World—from the perspective of teaching poetry in Spanish and Portuguese courses. Relevant topics might include, but are not limited to, linguistic approaches to poetry; thematic explorations of poetry; cultural, historical, or political investigations of poetic works; comparative analyses of different poets, poetic movements, or poetic genres across countries, regions, or languages; and modern or contemporary forms of poetry and poetic production. We also seek papers that explore the intersection of research and teaching on poetics. Of particular interest are proposals addressing major poetic movements of the modern period such as Modernismo or the Generación del 27.

By May 15, 2011, please send submissions in English, Spanish, or Portuguese to Kelly Comfort, Georgia Institute of Technology, at kcomfort@gatech.edu.
