Centro MundoLengua has partnered with the College Board during the past four years to offer Spain's only AP Spanish Language Workshop for experienced and new teachers. They intend to offer a similar 2-week program for summer 2010, whereby teachers will have the opportunity to be immersed in the culture of Spain as they are taking part in this officially recognized program. The opportunity to receive graduate credits also exists. Below are the most salient details:
AP Spanish Language
The purpose of this 2-week workshop is to familiarize teachers with the AP curriculum, resources and program goals, as well as the AP exam and its grading. Teachers will learn strategies for assessing their students' progress in Spanish, and will create and share new activities for speaking, listening, writing and reading. In short, this program will help teachers to modify their existing curricula and methodology, putting them on the path to articulating or improving their own AP Spanish Language program.
The program includes 35 hours of classes (10:00am-2:00pm, 30 minute break included). All teachers will receive a certificate from the College Board. Teachers also have included a course packet of materials from the CB, as well as Centro MundoLengua´s own AP materials created specifically for their student AP program.
Centro MundoLengua has partnered with the University of California at Riverside. UC Riverside has offered up to 3 semester graduate university credits for an additional cost of approximately $350.
Cultural visits to the most important monuments in Seville are planned, whereby teachers will experience firsthand Spanish culture and the history of Seville. Also included is a welcome breakfast and farewell dinner.
Teachers have the option of either living with a Spanish family with full room and board, or finding housing on their own. Centro MundoLengua is able to help with finding hostals, hotels, etc. at reasonable prices. There is limited availability for living with a Spanish family.
